11 "Yes, take silver and gold, and make crowns, and set them on the head of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest; The phrase 'Behold, the man whose name is the Branch', v. 12, is referring to Joshua, v. 11, - the Hebrew equivalent for the Aramaic Y'shua (see The Original Personal Name Of Messiah [click back button to return here]). Simply put, it means that the 'Branch' (Messiah) to come will have the same name as the aforementioned High Priest - Joshua (or Yeshua [Jesus]). The term 'the Branch', as used in Zekharyah / Zechariah 6:12 above, is a recognized title for the Messiah in Jewish literature (the Targum, the Jerusalem Talmud, the Pirqé de R. Eliez. c. 48, the Midrashim and more recently in a Hebrew language publication: THE NEW BIBLE DICTIONARY. Dr. Zvi Raday & Prof. Chaim Rabin. Yavneh Publishing House Ltd. and Keter Publishing House, Jerusalem Ltd. - under the entry for Tzemach). Compare also Yesha`yahu / Isaiah 4:2; 11:1-5; Yirmeyahu / Jeremiah 23:5-6; 33:15-16; Zekharyah / Zechariah 3:8. |
